Interdisciplinary Encounters: Research – Art - Education in Spatial Design with Ms. Samina Tanović

The Visual Arts and Visual Communications Design (VACD), English Language and Literature (ELIT) and English Language and Literature, Teaching (ELT) study programs jointly hosted an inspiring guest lecture by Ms. Samina Tanović, distinguished Bosnian designer, scenographer, art director, and President of ULUPUBiH (Association of Fine Artists of Applied Arts and Designers of Bosnia and Herzegovina). Held on Friday, November 14, 2025, in the VACD iMAC Lab, the event brought together students and faculty members in a collaborative academic setting.

In her lecture, “Beyond the Frame: Spatial Narratives in Contemporary Design”, Ms. Tanović offered valuable insight into the world of scenography and contemporary design. She reflected on her extensive work across national and international design projects, theatre and museum exhibitions, and contributions to television, including her work at Hayat Television. Students of IUS programs were inspired by her vision of spatial storytelling and her creative impact on cultural production in Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond.

After the lecture, VACD, ELIT and ELT students, as well as faculty staff, engaged in a joint discussion about their roles in the upcoming project at the Museum of Literature and Performing Arts. This collaboration represents a shared interdisciplinary project combining literary scholarship, design practice, and collaborative research.

Besides M.s Tanović, the core project team includes: Dr. Damir Kahrić (ELIT and ELT), Assistant Professor Nejira Mulahmetović, MA (VACD), Associate Professor Roman Sulajmanpašić, MFA (VACD) and Associate Prof. Dr. Vesna Suljić (ELIT and ELT).

Students from VACD, ELIT and ELT programs contributed actively, presenting their ideas after a productive brainstorming session with Ms. Tanović and FASS and FEDU faculty. Their involvement in such a significant project highlights the strength of interdisciplinary collaboration between IUS and the Museum. Both the students and staff members, therefore, connect research, art and education, and emphasize their collaborative and interdisciplinary efforts.

We express our deepest appreciation to Ms. Tanović for sharing her extensive knowledge, inspiration and design expertise. Students responded with enthusiasm and great satisfaction. Warm thanks also go to the dedicated FASS and FEDU faculty teams, whose joint efforts made this enriching event possible and strengthened IUS’s commitment to creative and scholarly collaboration.
