ELIT Youth Conference 2022
On Friday, 30 September 2022, English Language and Literature study program organized the second ELIT Youth Conference entitled: Youth Conference on Language, Literature and Education: Joining Forces to Build a Better World.
Undergraduate and graduate students from 7 countries presented 33 papers on various topics in the field of language, literature, education and cultural studies. The students came from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Turkiye, Montenegro, Poland, Azerbaijan, Oman and Malaysia. Students from Bosnia and Herzegovina represented 6 different faculties, English departments and Pedagogy departments across the country. This year’s conference included 6 parallel sessions, two of which were held online.
ELIT students Esma Hasani and Tarik Kosovac moderated the opening ceremony. Dr. Vesna Suljić welcomed the participants and guests on behalf of the ELIT program. Dr. Ljubica Matek and Dr. Jasna Poljak Rehlicki, from Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, the Republic of Croatia, delivered plenary talks during the opening ceremony. Dr. Matek’s lecture was entitled: Hoping against Hope: Vision of the Future in Byron’s “Darkness” while Dr. Poljak Rehlicki discussed the topic: Journey in American History and Literature.
This was a wonderful opportunity for ELIT students to learn about English poetry, American literature and American history and relate their findings to the present context. For many students, this was their first conference experience and they expressed their gratitude to the ELIT study program and IUS for organizing such an event and for providing students with opportunities to present their research, meet and network with new friends and have their papers published. We are hopeful that this conference will continue to gather young researchers from BiH and the world in their efforts to build a better future.
