Dr. Özlem Sayar Delivers Guest Lecture on Modernist Poetry at IUS
On Friday, November 14, 2025, students of the ELIT101.2 (Introduction to Literature) course at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) were introduced to an inspiring academic event as Assistant Professor Dr. Özlem Sayar from Adıyaman University, Department of English Language and Literature, Adıyaman, Türkiye, delivered a guest lecture as part of the ongoing Erasmus exchange between the two universities.
The session was hosted by Dr. Damir Kahrić, professor in the ELIT and ELT programs at IUS, who welcomed Dr. Sayar and introduced her to the students. Dr. Sayar began her visit by presenting her home institution, Adıyaman University, offering insights into its academic vision, programs and international initiatives.
Following the introduction, Dr. Sayar delivered a rich and engaging lecture on Modernist poetry in English, focusing on the intricate interplay of form, content, and historical context characteristic of the period. Her talk explored the works of key Modernist figures, including Thomas Hardy and T. S. Eliot. Special emphasis was given to Eliot’s landmark poem “The Waste Land”, after which Dr. Sayar provided a detailed and thought-provoking analysis of “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” (1915). Her explanations shed light on the poem’s psychological depth, formal innovations and its lasting significance in the Modernist canon.
We extend thanks to Dr. Damir Kahrić, whose efforts in organizing and hosting the lecture played a key role in enriching the students’ learning experience. His continued commitment to expanding students’ literary knowledge and analytical skills remains invaluable to the ELIT and ELT programs.
The event marked another successful academic exchange under the Erasmus partnership, reinforcing the strong ties and collaborative spirit between Adıyaman University and IUS.
